0005 : Dopepics Archive : Flea & Anthony

Looking back to the Summer of 1990 I cannot tell you with any certainty how exactly I ended up at The Roxy on the night of August 12th for the Rob Graves memorial. I had only been living in Los Angeles for a few months at this point. In reality, I just got lucky.

After moving to LA in the late-70's Graves became an important figure in the LA punk scene. Between 1978 and the time of his death from a heroin overdose in 1990, Graves played guitar or bass with The Bags, Gun Club, 45 Grave, and Thelonious Monster. 

It turns out Graves had lots of friends and by the time his memorial concert ended it had featured performances by the bands advertised on the flyer plus guest appearances by Thelonious Monster, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Weirdos, and The Nymphs. An epic show and a fitting send-off.

To this date I have only ever printed one or two images from this night. This image of Flea and Anthony, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has always been one of my favorites.
