Dope Pics features the photography of Atlanta based photographer Howard Levenson.
The Fuse Was Lit
I started taking photos as a teenager after receiving a Canon Canonet QL17 camera as a gift.
In my early-20's I took a single-semester photography class at Parsons art school in New York. That class taught me how to develop and print black and white film. It also enhanced my interest in making photographic images.
The fuse was lit.
Photography Is Where You're At
From my experience, more than anything else, photography is about where you are at. This is for obvious reasons. You cannot photograph something if you are not physically present. As a photographer, where you are and where you choose to go matters.
As an adult I have lived in Washington DC, NYC, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Brooklyn, and Atlanta. From 2003 to 2016 I lived on a Caribbean island called Virgin Gorda with a population of 3500.
I credit my semi-nomadic lifestyle and a love of traveling for inspiring my photography. As a photographer I am most fulfilled when experiencing new places and cultures and distilling my experiences into Dopepics.
