The VW Beetle (Vochos) is an enduring cultural icon in Mexico. The car started being produced in Mexico in 1967 and because of its affordability it became popular with the country's working class citizens.

The car was in such demand in Mexico that production continued in the state of Puebla until 2003 - long after production in Germany ended in 1978. Even today, vintage Beetles with custom paint jobs, personalized stickers, and all sorts of modifications are prevalent throughout Mexico. Classics, like the one featured in this photograph, are like mechanical folk-art on wheels.

This photograph was taken in San Miguel de Allende Mexico in October of 2019. It features a classic Vocho parked on a street with Spanish colonial buildings. The word Victoria is painted on the vehicle's passenger-side in the style of a Mexican beer with that name.
